Nigeria Security Tracker Weekly Update: March 18-24

 Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from March 18 to March 24, 2023. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

• March 18: Kidnappers abducted 19 INEC officials in Ideato South, Imo. 
• March 18: Electoral violence led to one death in Awe, Nassarawa; one death in Ezza North, Ebonyi; one death in Bakassi Local Government Area (LGA) and one death in Ogoja LGA, Cross River; one death in Ahoada West LGA, three deaths in Emuoha LGA, and two deaths in Khana LGA, Rivers, one death in Chanchaga, Niger State; six deaths in Gboko, Niger State; two deaths in Ila, Osun; two deaths in Batsari, Katsina; five deaths in Ethiope West, Delta; one death in Gudu, Sokoto; and one death in Oshodi/Isolo, Lagos.
• March 18: Nigerian troops killed sixty Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) militants trying to disrupt the election in Mafa, Borno. 
• March 18: Bandits killed fifty-one vigilante members in Maru, Zamfara. 
• March 19: Gunmen abducted six Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in Lokoja, Kogi. 
• March 20: Soldiers killed two police officers in Jalingo, Taraba. 
• March 20: Gunmen abducted one INEC official while post-election violence resulted in two deaths in Gusau, Zamfara. 
• March 20: Herders killed one in Yenegoa, Bayelsa. 
• March 20: Post-election violence resulted in one death in Bauchi, Bauchi.
• March 23: Herders killed four in Agatu LGA and one in Oturkpo LGA, Benue. 
• March 23: Herders abducted two in Ovia North-West, Edo. 
• March 23: Bandits killed one and abducted three in Kajuru, Kaduna. 
• March 24: A soldier killed three civilians in Borgu, Niger State.
